What is a good phonics workbook series for my child?
Two of our more popular programs are Explode the Code and Phonics Plus. The basic difference between the two is that Phonics Plus covers more than phonics, while Explode the Code is strictly phonics. Both have a minimal amount of writing which increases as the levels of the program increase. Neither requires an extensive amount of teacher preparation. Phonics Plus is colorful and could be a stand-alone language arts program. It covers the 5 pillars: phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, reading fluency, and vocabulary. Explode the Code is black and white and would be considered phonics reinforcement. It works well with other reading programs. This would be for the child who has a good start with phonics and needs additional practice.
