What is a good paying summer job for a college student?
Well, I got my first summer job when I was 17, working on a fishing boat in Alaska. I made $3,400 in a little over two months, I think. In today’s dollars that would be just under $15,000. So I’d say a good paying summer job for a college student should come in somewhere in that range. Call it $10,000 to $15,000. But there are virtually no jobs in the Lower-48 where you’re going to make that kind of take-home. So I recommend you check out the Alaska Fishing Jobs Center. They are at www.FishingJobs.com. To post your profile it will cost you $36, about the cost of a large pizza and a six-pack. But it could very well be the best $36 you ever spent.
When looking for a cool summer job, chances are you will end up having to work for minimum wage or work for free (internship). But there are summer jobs that do pay well.
Try getting a job with the county office in your local city. They tend to pay well and the pay increases with each unit you take.
You can also apply for stipened jobs that will pay you a large sum up front.
For jobs that pay moderately well, you can work for a temp agency that will find jobs for you. Some jobs pay up to as much as $12/hour.
