What is a good nursing program?”
Find programs, scholarships, etc. here; check it out: http://www.discovernursing.com/ Also, many many states have special scholarships for medically under served areas. If you go to a search engine and enter “medically underserved scholarship” you can check them out (add nursing to narrow it if you like). I heard a story on NPR a while ago saying they had passed a law requiring a certain proportion of nurses to patients in CA hospitals (higher recovery rate with more RNs). As a consequence, hospitals were subsidizing those taking nursing education, providing signing bonuses, even providing cars in some cases if the student would work for the hospital for a certain period after graduation. So I think there are some states offering much more support than others. I have a friend who signed up as a doctor in a rural WA area and had most of her student loans forgiven…a pretty penny for an MD. Good luck to your sister!
