Hockey itself is a metaphor for Life, just extremely condensed into only a few hours. There are face-offs, fights, goals, triumphs, heroes, criminals, etc. In Life, there are those on the offence – the extroverts, the aggressors, the ‘goal scorers,’ while there are also those on the defence – the introverts, the protectors, the ‘goal preventers.’ However, in the game of Life, to bring these two types of people into harmony, there also needs to be the goalie. The goalie acts as aggressor and protector; they’re aggressive towards their opponents, while they protect those on their own side. Yet, ultimately, the coach is the one who calls the shots. Nevertheless, when someone on either side does something wrong (gets into a fight, for instance), they are penalized and locked up for a short period of time.
