What is a good gift for my host family in Kenya?
For the children, takes candy (or “sweets” as they call them). Chocolate is very expensive in Kenya, so if you could buy that now and figure out a way to keep it from melting, that would be good. Otherwise, you can pick up candy over there. They will probably appreciate a nice futbol (soccer ball as well). As strange as it may sound, give the parents money. I promise they will be able to use that much more than anything else. If it would make you feel better, ask that they use it to send the kids to school or for medical treament, but give them money. 1,000 Kenya shillings (about $15) would be more than they make in a week and would do wonders for them. Also, some sort of gift that symbolizes your regoin of the US would probably be appreciated. Safari njema!
