I live outside Chicago and there’s a fellow here on the radio called the Regular Guy who does movie reviews. I enjoy his straightforward working class perspective on things. He hardly ever raves about a film, especially a love story, and especially a ’musical’ love story. They’re just “not his kind of ting.” His enthusiastic review of `Once’ sent me on a bee-line to one of only three theaters in Chicago showing this film. `Once’ is a tale about pure feelings that spark and grow with respect and admiration between a Guy and a Girl. As the film progresses, those feelings are nurtured by their passion for music. Each finally gives a gift to the other to help with the next step in Life. This is a simple, honest film about ordinary but real people who live in small, schmutzy apartments. They have marginal jobs, making barely enough to scrape by.
