I live outside Chicago and there’s a fellow here on the radio called the Regular Guy who does movie reviews. I enjoy his straightforward working class perspective on things. He hardly ever raves about a film, especially a love story, and especially a ’musical’ love story. They’re just “not his kind of ting.” His enthusiastic review of `Once’ sent me on a bee-line to one of only three theaters in Chicago showing this film. `Once’ is a tale about pure feelings that spark and grow with respect and admiration between a Guy and a Girl. As the film progresses, those feelings are nurtured by their passion for music. Each finally gives a gift to the other to help with the next step in Life. This is a simple, honest film about ordinary but real people who live in small, schmutzy apartments. They have marginal jobs, making barely enough to scrape by. There are no rich society babes, famous writers or privileged people here, like in Hugh Grant or Julia Roberts romantic comedies. ’Guy’ and ’Girl’
