What is a good choice for a dog when you have small children?
I think the dog that is known to be best with small children is a Lab. They are just so laid back and calm with kids in every case I have known. Most are tolerant of being climbed on and over and with being tugged at. Now the downfall to them is their size. If you have a small home or apartment it might not work as well. My brother and niece always get labs and have been very happy with them with their children. My other niece recently got one as a “helper dog” as she has cerebral palsy, and it’s a great dog for her, too. Easily trained and very obedient. My dog is a shnauzer mix…she is very tolerant but is too hyper, I think, for small children. She loves them, but scares them with her excitement to meet them, even though she is fairly small!
