What is a good cat litter for kitties with crystals?
There are a handful of cat litters containing pH indicators. The common problem with those is that the majority only detects when the urine is too alkaline. This means if your cat has crystals that form in acidic urine, the litter isn’t going to do a darn thing. There are two solutions to this: 1. get a litter that detects both. 2. use pH indicator strips rather than litter additives. I would stick to a clumping litter so you’ll be able to see the frequency and amount that your cat is urinating. Personally, I would invest in some pH strips, and test the urine whenever you feel necessary and pair that with a regular, clumping litter. If the crystals are a reoccuring problem, I might think about getting some x-rays done to make sure the crystals aren’t originating from a bladder stone problem. Some of the special diet foods *can* dissolve stones, but it works as often as it doesn’t.
