What is a good attention getter in a speech?
I was at conference and one of the speakers used what I think was the most ingenious attention getters. He told the audience that he had a prize for the first person he saw stand up in their seat and that on the count of three to stand up. Everyone immediately started positioning themselves on the edge of their seat to get ready to stand. The speaker counted off “1….2…” and just as the anticipation was building he said “and that’s where I want you to stay for the next 3 minutes; on the edge of your seat.” However at the tail end of his speech he did say “3” and about half of the auditorium shot up.
