What is a good age to start my baby in the sling? Will my newborn be “lost” in all those folds of fabric, or be positioned too loosely?
Just as it’s never too early to hold a newborn, it’s never too early to sling a newborn. (Although it’s generally not advised for some premature babies, because of their extremely small size and structure.) Our children were in a sling or baby carrier of some sort from as early as four hours old! The unpadded sling is so adjustable that you just tighten the fabric sufficiently in order to fully support your infant’s weight, and adjust the fabric around or away from your baby’s body, as needed. A young baby who has no head support yet will need to be fully supported by having fabric behind his head. Most babies will love the feeling of being swaddled and wrapped in fabric and held tightly against your body. If they don’t, they’ll let you know by fussing, and you can try at a later time, or find an alternative method.
