What is a Gigabit?
1024 x 1024 x 1024 bits make 1 Gigabit. If you say how many gigabits are in a megabyte, then, after a bit of calculatin I’d say the answer is, 0.0078125. Everyone, pay attention to the question. He asked what’s a “Gigabit”, not a “Gigabyte.” They differ eight times! And they are written in short differently too. Gigabytes are written as ‘GB’ but in case of gigabits it’s ‘Gb’, so no strings attached! Furthermore, Gb is typically used in measuring transfer rates through various connection media, when everyone knows that GB is a binary size measuring unit. Same things exist for MB/Mb and KB/Kb. Next time when your net speed reads ‘256 Kbps’ don’t think that it’s really filling up 1/3rd of a CD in a second. It’s actually 1/8-th of aht you think. Contact me for more.
