What is a Gicle?
A gicle (pronounced “zhee-CLAY”) is made with a revolutionary digital process that is an exciting blend of fine art and state-of-the-art technology. Known for their brilliant color range and remarkable detail, each of these extraordinary prints is painstakingly produced, one by one, most often on canvas or high quality artist’s watercolor papers. Iris is a manufacturer of gicle printers (the kind my print house uses), and Iris gicles are the only gicle digital prints that have COLORS MIXED INSIDE EACH PIXEL, which is made possible by spraying four million droplets of ink per second… droplets as small as a blood corpuscle! Longevity is a very important factor in fine art printing, and the explosive growth of this process has spurred the development of a new generation of inks that offers all the permanence expected of a work of fine art. I work with a great professional print studio in New Jersey, even though my own studio is now in Florida. Thanks to computers and digital everything
