What is a Full Duplex Wireless Intercom?
Earmark is a leading manufacturer of wireless communication systems for use in noisy environments. For many years, the firefighting community has been asking for a wireless interface to their traditional hard-wired intercom systems. Earmark has developed a technology that allows pump panel and aerial operations to be performed while maintaining full duplex wireless connectivity to the fire truck intercom as well as the fire truck radio. The Earmark system, called wLINK®, consists of a base station which is mounted in the cab of the fire truck and is hardwired to the fire truck intercom system which is, in turn, hard wired to the fire truck radio and a portable unit that is connected to a headphone. The portable unit fits easily in the radio pocket of a turnout coat. The truck battery powers the base station while the portable unit is battery powered with over 12 hours of available usage.
