What is a Formulary (or Preferred Drug List) and how does it affect me?
A Formulary (or Preferred Drug List) is a list of brand-name and generic medications that have been reviewed and recommended by a committee of doctors and clinical pharmacists and approved by your health plan based upon quality, effectiveness, and in a limited number of cases, cost savings. Medications are not evaluated based on cost unless therapeutic equivalence has been established. These reviews are done on a regular basis and changes to the drug list can be made throughout the year.
