What is a fog light?
A fog light is an exterior directional light, similar to a head light, with the purpose of increasing visibility during bad weather conditions like fog, heavy rain, sleet, smoke, or snow. Fog lights are typically mounted on the front of the vehicle below the headlights. They are most often attached to the bumper or are embedded in a front fairing. They can also be mounted on the top, sides, or rear of any vehicle depending on the driver’s use of the lights and desired look. Why are they so important? Fog lights are important because of how they are different from headlights. They operate a more focused beam of light which is typically tinted, masked, or colored so it doesn’t reflect back into the driver’s eyes. This allows the light to cut through thick fog and increase visibility by two or three times that of normal headlights in those conditions. In situations with two to four feet of forward visibility, it can be a true life saver. Turning your high beams on is not only ineffective
