What is a floating floor and what benefits does it offer over glue down or nail down methods?
There are several ways to install flooring material over a subfloor and the method of doing so can depend upon factors such as location within a home, ease and cost of installation, and personal preference. A “floating floor” is a method of installation that does not require the flooring material to be permanently attached to the subfloor whether by nail down or glue down methods. In a floating floor, the flooring pieces are secured to those adjoining so that the floor system functions as a single unit instead of as a series of individual pieces. As a result, the flooring rides above the subfloor and provides a soft underfoot feel. A floating floor can only be applied over a level subfloor, one without imperfections.
