What is a ‘fixed installation’ under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations?

0

Equipment that is part of a ‘fixed installation’ is excluded from the scope of the WEEE Regulations. A fixed installation is a combination of equipment, systems, finished products or components. They must have been assembled or erected by an assembler or installer at a given place to operate together in an expected environment to perform a specific task but not intended to be placed on the market as a single functional or commercial unit. Examples of a fixed installation include: • heating plants • industrial installations • lifts or escalators • electric doors or gates. A product that is simply bolted down is not considered to be a fixed installation. For example, fitted kitchen appliances, large fixed equipment, fire and intruder alarm systems and CCTV camera systems are not fixed installations.
