What is a financial responsibility certificate (SR-22)?
An SR-22, or certificate of financial responsibility (CFR), is a document proving that an individual has the minimum auto insurance liability coverage required by state financial responsibility laws. It is usually required of individuals who have been involved in a traffic accident or other traffic offense, and who have been unable to demonstrate financial responsibility. In some states, it may also be required as part of a court order.
