What is a Fifth Framework Programme Shared Cost Project?
The Framework Programme (FP) for Research and Technological Development (RTD) is the EU’s main instrument for research funding in Europe. Each is proposed by the European Commission and adopted by Council and the European Parliament following a co-decision procedure. The Fifth Framework Programme (FP5), running from 1998-2002, has concentrated effort in a problem-solving approach represented by programmes which cover a wide range of activities as a reflection of the huge spectrum of science and technology today – and the mass of problems facing society where research can make a difference. Currently we are at the beginning of its Sixth framework Programme [2002-6] which is associated with the creation of the European Research Area [ERA] and the entry of the Candidate Countries into the EU.
