a downgrade is the opposite to an upgrade. its replacing the firmware with an OLDER version than what on it. say current version is 3.5.2 to upgrade you increase the firmware to newer 3.6.0 but to downgrade you replace the firmware (often this needs special tools as downgrading is not approved) from 3.5.2 to say 2.1.
