What is a dorminant and recessive gene?

First you need to get the terminology correct. A gene is the unit which contains the genetic code for a protein character, e.g. the gene which codes for the ABO blood group. A gene is not dominant or recessive. Most genes have different variants called alleles which may be dominant or recessive. A dominant allele will always lead to a particular phenotype when it is present, so only one copy is needed to produce that phenotype. A recessive allele must always be present as two copies in order for the phenotype to be expressed. Here is one example of possible combinations of alleles: In the ABO blood group, there are 3 alleles A, B and O. Allele A produces the A antigen on blood cells and B produces the B antigen. Allele O does not produce any antigen. If you have a genotype AO or BO you will have blood group A or B, so the A and B alleles are both dominant to O. Only the genotype OO will give you blood group O, so this is a recessive allele. Finally, if you have genotype AB you will hav
