What is a doctors recommendation?
A doctor’s recommendation for medical cannabis isn’t a prescription, because a physician may not administer a patient a Schedule I narcotic, lest they lose their DEA license to prescribe drugs. The difference is semantical. Although medical marijuana has been synthesized into traditional pharmaceutical forms — like Marinol (pill) and Sativex (spray) — until marijuana is reclassified, it can’t be “prescribed” by physicians, because it’s still banned under federal law.
