What is a “Digital Hygrometer” or “Recording Hygrometer”?
The word “hygrometer” or “digital hygrometer” is a generic term referring to any instrument that measures the humidity of air. Sometimes also called a psychrometer. Hygrometers can have many levels of quality, functionality and accuracy, ranging from a child’s science experiment to a $20,000 primary standards lab humidity chamber. Types of hygrometers include psychrometers, sling psychrometers, and hygrothermographs. Other common terms that have a similar meaning include humidity indicator, humidity gauge, humidity meter, humidity recorder, and humidity sensor. A “recording hygrometer” is an instrument that not only measures humidity, but also records data in a permanent record. They can be mechanical devices, such as chart recorders and hygrothermographs, or electronic and digital hygrometer versions, such as data loggers.
