What is a Dietetic Technician, Registered?
* Dietetic technicians, registered, often working in partnership with registered dietitians, screen, evaluate and educate patients; manage and prevent diseases such as diabetes and obesity and monitor the progress of a patient or client. DTRs work in settings such as hospitals and clinics, extended-care facilities, home health-care programs, schools, day-care centers, correctional facilities, restaurants, food companies, foodservice providers, public health agencies, government and community programs such as WIC and Meals on Wheels, health clubs, weight management clinics and community wellness centers. DTRs must complete at least a two-year associate’s degree in an approved dietetics technology program from an accredited U.S. college or university. DTRs also must have supervised practice experience in community programs, health care and food service facilities. They must pass a nationwide examination and continuing education courses throughout their careers.
