What is a Diamond Grading Report or Certificate?
This will vary by company. Some are not detailed and are very ambiguous. Great care should be taken to insure that the grades listed are the grades received. To insure the best results specify that you receive a certificate from one of the following, (GIA, EGL, HRD, IGI). The first three will identify the grade of the diamond but do not address value. Generally, these three are used for loose stones. The IGI lists the value of the entire jewelry item and the grade of the stones as well as the gram weight of the item. If you are receiving one of the first three certificates with your purchase, then you will also need a separate appraisal. The second appraisal will address the value, gold, and also list the report number of the certifier.
