What is a detention and training order?
Detention and Training Orders can be for a term of four, six, eight, ten, twelve, eighteen or twenty-four months. Half of this sentence will be served in a Detention Centre/Young Offenders’ Institution (YOI), the remainder in the community, under the supervision of a Probation Officer, member of a Youth Offending Team or a social worker. It is available for young offenders who have been convicted of an offence which would be punishable by imprisonment for someone aged 21 or over. It is available for males and females.
