A Debutante Ball or Gala is a high class society social gathering in which high ranking members of a specific social collection debut their 16-18 year old daughters as official women or young ladies. Usually followed by multiple choreographed dances with escorts (guys who are equal to this girl in social class or rank). This party was most common in the south for a while and is still seen all across America today but in various ways such as a girl of hispanic heritage’s quincenera or a jewish girl or boy’s bahmitzvah basically it’s all the same idea except this is a ball so there are big poofy dresses and ballroom dancing.
