What is a daylight basement?
It is most often seen on sloping lots that allow at least a portion of the basement to have larger windows. Depending upon the amount of slope, you can often times have a door that walks directly out. There are also designs listed with daylight basements that are simply built farther out of the ground thereby exposing part of the basement wall. These go under the names of “split-entry”, “raised ranch”, “bi-level” and “multi-level”.
A daylight basement is normally built on a sloping site where the foundation walls are partially exposed to allow for the installation of windows and a door. The exposed portion of the basement wall typically includes an exterior finish on the exterior of standard concrete or masonry wall construction.
