What is a “Dat” file?
Each virus has a unique string of code that becomes its “signature” – a Dat file is the library of viruses’ signatures. It is important to keep the Dat file current to ensure that the software is protecting the computer against new viruses. There are really three files, CLEAN.DAT, NAMES.DAT and SCAN.DAT. These files are the virus signature (Dat) files that provide virus information to the VirusScan software. Network Associates updates the Dat files approximately once a week.
The DAT file contains all the user preferences and settings. I.E.: Every “Preference” setting in the LP Suite is stored in a DAT file. The V2009 LP Suite comes with a “DefaultUser.xml” file. If the LP Librarian user has a need to deviate from the IPC-7351B standard solder joint goal, the LP Librarian allows you to customize solder joint goals and save them to a DAT file. Using the LP Wizard, users can set up different CAD tool preferences for layer assignments and directory folders to send data to. If LP Wizards for multiple CAD tools exists on the same machine, a different DAT file would be created for each CAD tool. The main purpose for creating custom DAT files is to allow each user to set up their own personal preferences and to recall those settings when using the LP Suite. When opening a session of the LP Software, you can select any personal DAT file to restore your desired settings.
