What is a Crime Scene Investigation?
Crime Scene Investigation is the meeting point of science, logic, and law. Processing an incident location is a long, tedious process that involves purposeful documentation of the conditions at the scene of a crime and the collection of any physical evidence that could further explain what happened, and ultimately point to the person(s) who committed the crime. There is no typical crime, there is no typical body of evidence, and there is no typical investigative approach. At any given time, during the process of a crime scene investigation, evidence such as dried blood may be collected, or latent fingerprints may be present, evidence such as hair may have to be lifted, or a sledge hammer may be needed to break through a wall. All necessary steps in preserving the evidence at the crime scene in its present form will be constantly considered by the crime scene investigator.
