What is a copyright? How does it differ from a patent?
A copyright is an exclusive set of legal rights afforded to an original work of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression. For example, if you create an original song and record that song, the sound recording of your song is afforded copyright protection. Generally, copyrights differ from patents in that copyright law prevents the unauthorized use of the author’s expression of his idea, whereas patents prevent the unauthorized use of the idea itself.
