What Is A Condition Of Being Heterozygous For A Recessive Trait?

0

Being heterozygous for a recessive trait means being different for that trait in your genotype (your personal genome) , that is, not being pure breeding for that trait. To show a recessive trait in ones phenotype ( physical) ,a person has to be pure breeding for that recessive trait, called homozygous recessive (the same) .When a person is heterozygous for a given trait it means that he or she has the dominant allele too and the dominant allele will show in the phenotype and the recessive allele remain “recessive”. This is called being a carrier. A heterozygous person can therefore pass on either the dominant or the recessive allele for that trait to his/her offspring. 50/50 chance each time. Hope this explains.
