What is a compound?explain the types of compound?
Compounds: A compound is a substance formed when two or more elements are chemically joined. Water, salt, and sugar are examples of compounds. When the elements are joined, the atoms lose their individual properties and have different properties from the elements they are composed of. A chemical formula is used a quick way to show the composition of compounds. Letters, numbers, and symbols are used to represent elements and the number of elements in each compound. Ionic Compounds: Ionic compounds are formed when metallic elements from the left-hand side of the Periodic Table react with nonmetallic elements from the right-hand side of the Table. Ionic compounds have high melting and boiling points. Many ionic compounds are soluble in water. Ionic compounds are brittle and do not conduct electricity when in the solid form. The molten (liquid) form of ionic compounds will conduct an electric current. In a molten sample of an ionic compound the ions are free to move. The cations can move t
