What is a complete classical ballet training?

0

Classical ballet training starts at around age 7. Before that is just movement classes for fun. The body is not able to do the positions correctly until that age. There are several different types of “classical” ballet. French, Italian (Cecchetti), Russian (Vaganova) and British. (Also Danish, but that has become less common.) Balanchine (SAB) would NOT be a classical training. That is considered neoclassical. Students study at a Ballet academy (many are affiliated with a major company) and dance approximately 20-30 hours a week. They do this until around age 17, when they become apprentices in ballet companies for about a year before being asked to join the corps de ballet.
