What is a community root authority?
A community root authority is the first subsegment in an XRI authority component. A community root authority may either be a GCS character or a cross-reference. For example, xri://@example*bar uses the “@” community root authority and xri://(http://example.com) uses the (http://example.com) community root authority. Community root authorities enable community members to share a common namespace for shared resources. XRI resolver clients must be configured with the “bootstrap” resolution metadata necessary to locate a community root authority, similar to the configuration of root DNS servers in a DNS resolver. See the XRI Resolution section below. Community root authorities may be established by any community that requires interoperable identifier resolution, e.g., governments, telecommunications networks, industry consortia, etc. There are also non-profit organizations that offer public community root authorities for global context symbols.
