What is a colonial house? How is it different from the other style?

I live in a colonial home, and it certainly has a very particular style. The colonial homes you see are either “re-makes” or real homes that have been around since the colonial period (1600- 1775). The true houses of the colonial period have obviously been updated for modern use, but still have many of the old structures and beautiful aspects of the old colonial house it used to be. Re-makes are homes that are either colonial looking on the outside and modern inside, or a colonial-modern mix throughout the home. The typical colonial design consists of large, set apart windows, wood furnishings, brick or wood siding or shingles, and a large hearth or fireplace. They can be either small homes or large ones, and are prevailent in New England America. I have always lived in colonial homes, and adore the style and feel of them (I have moved a few times). I hope you see the beauty, too!
