A codec is a compression algorithm for voice data packets to be sent from your IP Phone to another destination. Both ends must be support the same codecs for the data packets to be transmitted in both directions. In the softphone settings, under the Codecs tab, the perference of codecs can be ordered. Codecs listed first will be preferred over the others.
