What is a CMS?

A CMS or “Content Management System” is a script controlled online application specifically designed to manage (add, remove and modify) the content in a remote database which will eventually be displayed on the website. Access to this is usually restricted to the site administrator or the website owner by a user name and password authentication system. CMS’s are generally used for features like Blogs, Guest books, Forums, News and Articles etc and are generally for websites that require more than one update per week. The main purpose of the CMS is to give the owner easy to use flexible control over frequently changing information without the hazard of damaging the website structure.
