What is a CME sponsor?

0

A CME sponsor is usually an organization, such as an academic institution, that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to issue AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. A CME sponsor can also be a medical education organization that may or may not be accredited by the ACCME, but that creates a CME program and has it approved by a professional organization, such as the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), which issues Prescribed credit (equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM for the purposes of the Physician’s Recognition Award). The VLH and its content partners pay CME sponsors (or the AAFP) for the right to issue CME credit on behalf of sponsors or the AAFP who have reviewed and/or approved our programs.
