What is a Civil Offense Citation?

0

On June 26, 2001, The City of Oxford enacted law to address a wide variety of municipal violations with the issuance of a Civil Offense Citation. The types of violations that are involved are primarily civil, including violations of building code, property maintenance standards, litter, and weed control, to name a few. In the past, these types of violations could only be handled by issuing criminal citations. This program permits the City to more quickly and efficiently deal with violations of law related to public safety and nuisances. After receiving this citation, you must remedy the problem for which you have been cited as soon as possible. If the problem for which you have been cited is not corrected, or if the problem continues, you may be charged criminally for those offenses.
