The CID (credit card identification number) is the three-digit number on the back of your Card, also sometimes called a credit card verification number. Merchants often ask for the CID so that they know you have the card in your possession at the time you make a transaction. When an online merchant asks for a CID number, please use the three-digit number generated by Secure Online Account Numbers.

A CID is a Card Identification number that is on the back of your card. It is used to confirm the identity of a card holder in situations where the merchant is unable to physically see the credit card in your possession. You will be most commonly asked for your CID number when making purchases over the Internet or over the phone. The purpose of providing the CID is to let the merchant know that you have the credit card in your physical possession when you pay for a product or service. If a thief just has your credit card number and not the card itself it is difficult for them to exploit the number. This is why it is so important for you to keep your CID number a secret. A common scam used by thieves is to call you and impersonate a credit card company employee that is asking for your CID number. You should never tell anybody your CID number unless you are paying for a purchase that has been initiated by yourself and no one else.

Charge Injection Device (CID) cameras have been in use since the early 1970’s, but it has only been in the last several years that knowledge and experience have combined for a broader understanding of the technology and how to more fully apply it. The CID concept was originated by scientists at General Electric Company working to devise a semiconductor memory chip. Exploiting the photosensitive characteristics of silicon, they developed a simple X,Y addressable array of photosensitive capacitor elements, and evolved the first CID camera in 1972. Development efforts continued through the 70’s and 80’s resulting in the generation of some 30 patents describing the basic structure and readout techniques presently employed. CIDTEC was established when management took the business private through a leveraged buyout in July of 1987. Every pixel in a CID array can be individually addressed via electrical indexing of row and column electrodes. Unlike Charge Coupled Device (CCD) cameras which tr

The CID is a 10-digit, alphanumeric number, generated by µVision, that contains parameters (hard disk ID, MAC address, operating system information) which uniquely identify your workstation. The Keil Product Licensing web pages use this information to construct your LIC. The CID also contains current date information, so it changes daily. The changing date will not affect your LIC, so you may re-install a LIC at a later date on the same workstation.
