Recently I had a parent of a 5 year old, diagnosed with ADHD approach me in utter exasperation with a teacher who supposedly knew all about ADHD symptoms. Mom had expressly told the teacher, whose job was Special Educational Needs coordinator in school, that her daughter had a hypersensitivity to wheat products and must not be given wheat. Unfortunately, the teacher totally ignored this when she was giving out rewards to the children in her class and gave this lady’s daughter a wheat treat. The consequence was that the child was flying around the room most of the night and the whole family suffered. Many parents have experienced similar things with teachers, who believe that they are making excuses for their badly behaved children and refuse to accept there really is any such thing as ADHD.
