What Is a Chemical Hazard?
A chemical hazard is any substance that can cause harm to humans, animals or the environment.Chemicals of all kind are stored at work and can result in potential injuries, even death if mishandled. Many people do not realize how dangerous common use items (bleach, hydrochloric acid, and gasoline fumes) can cause serious health problems if inhaled or mixed with other chemical hazards. Therefore, OSHA has set up a Hazard Communication Standard which requires all employers to “provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area.” This safety training course follows OSHA’s Federal mandated laws to make sure employees have the information, safety training and PPE protection needed to work safely around any hazardous materials.
