What is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and what distinguishes them from accountants?
All CPAs are accountants but not all accountants are CPAs. To become a CPA an accountant must pass a rigorous set of examinations as well as meet strict education requirements (minimum bachelor’s degree) with a background in tax, audit and financial disciplines. Each year, on average, CPAs are required to complete forty (40) hours of continuing education to keep abreast to changes in tax, accounting and financial standards.
