What is a Certified Nurse Aide?
A Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) performs basic client needs under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse or licensed nurse practitioner. Employment is found in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health care environments. A general pay scale for a CNA is between $8-$14 per hour. A CNA’s work activities include: • Being part of a cooperative nursing team and reading chart notes • Observing and reporting patients’ vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperature • Assisting patients with eating, walking, bathing, dressing and elimination • Observing and reporting patients’ food intake and liquid output • Transporting clients by gurney or wheelchair • Cleaning patients’ rooms and changing bed linens What are the requirements needed to become a CNA? In order to become a CNA in the State of Indiana, a student must, • Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction • Complete 75 hours of clinical practicum • Receive 2 Mantoux Tuberculin (TB) Tests or
