Catholic schools in Alberta are publicly-funded institutions, they are not private schools but public schools funded by the provincial government. Students do not need to be Catholic to attend a Catholic school. However, the following guidelines are to be followed as stated by Edmonton Catholic Schools’ Policies and Regulations:A school is required to register all resident students residing within its catchment area. Where space and resources permit, other resident students of the district, or non-resident students may be admitted to a particular school.A resident student of Edmonton Catholic Separate School District No. 7 is one who: 1. is a baptized Catholic; or 2. has at least one parent who is a baptized Catholic.
