What is a catenary?
The overhead wire is referred to as “catenary.” The existing system was designed and built in the 1920s when Babe Ruth was hitting home runs for the Yankees! It is old, brittle, and worn. When it fails, it can leave trains and passengers stranded between stations without heat in the winter and air conditioning in summer. Over the years, catenary failures have been the single leading cause of lengthy service disruptions.
