What is a Caldicott Guardian and what do they do?

A Caldicott Guardian is the guardian of patient information. Every NHS organisation should have one and their responsibilities include allowing staff from their organisation access to the NSTS. They assist their chosen Delegated Authorities in choosing and allocating suitable business protocols for staff; and support the need to monitor users’ access levels for suitability of purpose. They are also responsible for security of their organisation’s use of NSTS and need to audit the use of NSTS to identify any irregularities and misuse.
