What is a CAL and why do I need one?
CAL stands for Client Access License. Because Scarlet Page leverages Microsoft Windows Update Server Services, a CAL is required for each user or device that uses Scarlet Page. You may choose to obtain a Window Server CAL for each user or each device that uses the service. If you have more devices than users, it’s cheaper to buy CALs and assign them to users. If, however, you have more users than devices, assign CALs to the devices instead. You do NOT need to purchase a CAL for both a user and a device. If you have previously purchased a Windows Server CAL for file/print sharing, Active Directory, etc., you do not need to purchase one for Scarlet Page. Only 1 Windows Server CAL is required per user or device. For additional information about CALs, please review the Windows Server Client Access Licensing Overview document on the Microsoft website.
