a cable receiver is a device which takes a raw signal from a cable company and breaks it down into the different signals (channels) (sound) and sends the selected channel, guide information, audio type (mono, stereo,5.1 surround) this device is the tuner for your TV if the TV does not have it’s own, if the TV has it’s own then the rec may not be necessary. the router takes the signal and makes it available to many different devices, in the case of cable signal for your Internet it can take the signal provided by the cable modem and make it accessible to several computers.
